V&A China Design Now

China is huge. China is becoming topical. Yet China remains mystery to most people in the West. ‘Made in China’ has become a familiar tag, but the spectacular creative energy in modern China is barely known. During the last twenty years, the Chinese have rediscovered their pre-socialist past and begun to combine their own traditions with global influences to produce a cultural rebirth. At the heart of this lies a new culture of design.
This exhibition will take you on a journey along China’s coastal cities to experience the country’s creative landscape. The journey starts in the far south, where graphic designers in Shenzhen began to explore new directions in the early 1990s. Next we move up to Shanghai. Here consumerism and urban culture have combined to produce astonishing fashion and lifestyles. Finally, we travel to Beijing, where monumental architecture for the Olympic Games is transforming the skyline of this ancient capital.
China Design Now explores China’s dreams and hopes over the last two decades, from individual designers to the nation as a whole. It is our hope that this exhibition will bring contemporary China closer to you.

Cypres Mobile Phone by Nao Tamura

When the technology evolves and its appearance is reduced, a new space is born between us and the mobile phone. From the mobile phone to the pendant, from the pendant to the mobile phone; various possibilities are created utilizing a “bluetooth” connection. A mobile phone packed with information and precision parts emerges in a new space.
As I find the view of a snow-covered town beautiful, when a colourful and precise semi-conductor material is covered with one skin, it shows a new expression. The optics which emerges from the surface is a decor that is precisely worked. Not decorating cosmetically, but changing the expression of what is originally there. I want you to feel a new expression of the cellular phone.

Riva Lofts Florence

Riva Loft is the product of a transformation project by architect Claudio Nardi and his daughter Alice. In 1880 the complex was a mill, later transformed into a series of tradesmen's workshops; in 1999 it became the studio of architect Claudio Nardi. The nine suites were designed in the spirit of French "studios", combining a metropolitan style with a cosy domestic atmosphere.
Different sizes (from 30 to 100 m2), forms and layouts distinguish the nine lofts: from a suite with a private balcony to one overlooking the garden with panoramic views of Parco delle Cascine or Brunelleschi's dome.
Each of the suites has its own independent entrance and a fully equipped kitchen; they all share the same style, but each has its own unmistakeable personality. In this complex, in which the architecture conveys a feeling of relaxation and comfort, the internal and external layout includes several common areas also "marked" by the touch of an elegance that is never banal.
A homey feel and contemporary style are the keys to interpretation of these spaces in a green, quiet location close to the historic heart of Florence.

Photography Project - The One We Love

The Ones We Love is a project highlighting young and talented photographers from around the world. Each artist contributed six photographs of the person(s) who is most important to them, taken outdoors in a natural setting. The goal of the website is to portray the people who are loved, cherished, and inspirational to these artists, and also showcase the differences and similarities in the photographs each of them took within the same guidelines.
